Believe 30: HUMILITY

Believe 30:  HUMILITY

Objective:  To have humility.

Preparing for the Lesson:

Be in prayer as you read the following:  Philippians 2:3-4, Philippians 2:6-8, Proverbs 15:33, Luke 14:11, Proverbs 11:2, James 3:13, Numbers 12:3, Acts 7, Acts 8:3,Acts 9:1-9, Romans 12:3, Acts 17:28, 1 Corinthians 10:24, Matthew 6:33, Proverbs 22:4, 1 Peter 5:5, Philippians 2:9 and James 4:10.  I suggest that you read the scriptures in your version of the Bible and then read the same scriptures in another version of the Bible.

The Journey of BELIEVE 30:  Humility

My Thoughts:

  • The difference between blessed and success is that the doer is different.  Success is what I do, what I accomplish, what I achieve.  But blessed is what God does and gives to me.  God sees things quite differently than we.  (Rev. James D. Douthwaite 2008-2016)
What are your thoughts?  I would love it if you would post your thoughts in the comments section.

Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Please help me to love You above everything else and my neighbor as myself.  Show me the things I can do to prove my love for You and my neighbor.  In Jesus' name, Amen.

The Journey of BELIEVE 29:  Gentleness

My Thoughts:

  • If we are not gentle in our treatment of others,do we expect Him to be gentle in His treatment of us?  (Mark A. Copeland 2015)
  • Gentleness can contribute much to the comfort of life and peace of society, by reducing friction between people. (Mark A. Copeland 2015)
  • Gentleness can contribute to promoting the gospel of Christ.  (Mark A. Copeland 2015)
Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You that I do not have to be afraid of growing older because I know that You will still be with me when I  am old and that You will make me strong.  In Jesus' name, Amen.

The Journey of BELIEVE 28:  Faithfulness

My Thoughts:

  • God does not require us to be successful only that we be faithful.
  • If we are faithful to God and what He asks of us, material success does not matter who love God, who are called according to His purpose.  (Romans 8:28)
What are your thoughts?  I would love it if you would post your thoughts in the comments section.

Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I praise You for Your goodness!  Thank You for abundantly providing for all my needs and for caring for our country.  In Jesus' name, Amen.

The Journey of BELIEVE 27:  Kindness/Goodness

My Thoughts:

  • The difference between kindness and goodness is that kindness is more about our attitude and goodness is more about the things we do for others.  Kindness is in your heart but you have to show it.  Goodness is Godness.
  • Remember:  The Gifts of the Spirit are given but the fruits of the Spirit are developed.
What are your thoughts?  I would love it if you would post your thoughts in the comments section.

The Journey of BELIEVE 26:  Patience

My Thoughts:

  • Waiting for things to happen is hard to do because we lose our patience because we want things to happen in our time and not in God's time.
  • Four steps to developing patience:  Understand the addictive nature of anger, irritation and outrage.  Upgrading our attitude towards discomfort and pain.  Paying attention when the irritation/pain starts.  Self talk.
What are your thoughts:  I would love it if you would post your thoughts in the comments section.

Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I am sorry that it is hard for me to have patience all the time.  Teach me to be patient at all times even when I am under a lot of stress.  In Jesus' name, Amen.

The Journey of BELIEVE 25:  Hope

My Thoughts:

  • To develop a greater sense of hope, we need to: Method 1 - Envision Our Life:  Figure out how we want our life to look, compare our ideal vision to our present life, consider whether we have realistic or unrealistic expectations for our lives and set some goals for ourselves.  Method 2 - Developing Hope: Acknowledge our strengths, cultivate supportive relationships, engage in pleasurable activities, get involved with a cause, put ourselves in more diverse situations, keep tract of our thought and feelings in a journal and take care of ourselves.  Method 3 - Dealing with Anxiety and Hopelessness:  Identify symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, address our anxiety about the future, notice when lack of hope becomes all-pervading hopelessness and consider visiting a mental health professional.  Method 4 - Understanding Hope:  Think about what it means to have hope, realize that we need to work on our attitude every day, learn to challenge our negative thoughts rather than ignore them and recognize that we need to be resilient in challenging situations.

What are your thoughts?  I would love it if you would post your thoughts in the comments section.

Heavenly Father, I am sorry that it is hard for me to have self-control all the time.  Make me calm and peaceful in your presence, like a baby in her mother's arms, with the certain knowledge that you will resolve the issues for me.  Amen

  • Back when I was an Elder with Reid Memorial United Presbyterian Church in Richmond, IN, I had an experience in which I thought my body had been injured when I said no to spending more money for another program when they were $19,000.00 in dept. The rest of the Elders voted to spend the money for the program.  This affected my whole body especially when I heard several years later that they only had 35-40 members coming to Church on a regular basis.  I was sure upset and very sad.

Believe 12: "Lord, Teach Us To Pray" by John A. McKee

Believe 12:  PRAYER

"Lord, Teach Us To Pray"

The Lord loved His Disciples
With unimaginable love.
He showed that in so many ways.

We can all rest assured
He loves us just as much
And He shall for the rest of our days.

Jesus was with His Disciples
In a certain place
After His prayer to the Father one day.

When one of them asked
Of the Lord Jesus Christ.
"Lord, won't you teach us to pray?"*

So he taught them a short,
But a simple prayer...
Quite an easy prayer to recall...

A prayer still in use
By Christians worldwide...
A prayer that is used by us all.

Although it contains
But thirty-seven words
(According to Luke chapter eleven)

It says all to our God
That's required to assure us
Of life eternal with Him in His Heaven.

It addresses the Father
And hallows His name...
With a plea that His Kingdom come.

The prayer then petitions
For our daily bread
Ever mindful of where it comes from.

It pleads with our God,
To, "Forgive us our sins"
As we forgive the sins of our brothers.

God wants us to forgive
Those by whomwe've been wronged.
We're expected to be Christ'like toward others.
"And lead us not into temptation" He said,
As Jesus concluded His prayer.

If you listen intently
You can hear His words ring
Just as clearly as if you were there.

Do not make a pretense
Of lengthy prayers before men,
Whenever you pray to the Lord.

That's what hypocrites do,
Jesus said to Disciples,
"They have received their reward."**

Do not try to improve
On the prayer Jesus taught...
Do not add to or take from it's text...

For the Lord's Prayer we recite
Will help us get through this life
Into the spiritual realm of the next.

The Journey of BELIEVE 12:  Prayer

My Thoughts:
  • I like the pattern in which Jesus can assist us in how our prayers may be formed:  Upward, Personal and Spiritual.
  • I love the Lord's Prayer.  I have posted a beautiful rendition (video) of The Lord's Prayer.
  • I have also included a post on a beautiful prayer that John A. McKee, of Tucson, AZ, and of NPC wrote "Lord, Teach Us To Pray" on July 30, 1996.  Relig_28 by:  John A. Mckee, July 30, 1996, Used by Permission - by John A. McKee, January 18, 2016.
/What are your thoughts?  I would love it if you would post your thoughts in the comments section.

Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Please help me to put this week's key idea into practice. Now I want to pray the Lord's Prayer that you taught us (repeat the Lord's Prayer) then we pray this through Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Journey of BELIEVE 11:  Worship

My thoughts:
  •   "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" best describes my thoughts and feelings about God.
  •    One way worship can become a heartless ritual is by drifting into disobedient thinking.
What are your thoughts?  I would love it if you would post your thoughts in the comments section.

Be in prayer as you read the following:  John 14:1-2, 1 Corinthians 3:5-7 and Jude 20-21.  I suggest that you read the scriptures in your version of the Bible and then read the same scriptures in another version of the Bible.

The Journey of  BELIEVE 10:  Eternity

My Thoughts;
  • After reading this chapter today (1-16-16), I now understand about eternity.  Now I'm at peace about dying.  It gives me hope.
  • I would suggest that all Christians learn thoroughly and understand what happens when you die.
What are your thoughts?  I would love it if you would post your thoughts in the comments section.

Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Please help me to put this week's key idea into practice.  Thank you very much for the gift of life that I may enjoy so unconditionally every day  Thank you that you also made eternal life possible for me if I believe in Jesus.  In Jesus' name, Amen.

Believe 9:  STEWARDSHIP

Objective:  To learn what God's call is on my life

Be in prayer as you read the following:  Psalm 24:1-10; Psalm 50:1-25; Matthew 25:14-30; Genesis 1:26-30; 1 Samuel 1:1-28; 1 Samuel 2:18-21; Deuteronomy 12:5-7; Malachi 3:6-12, Luke 16:1-15; Mark 12:41-44; 1 Kinds 17:1-24; Romans 12:13; Hebrews 13:2; 1 Peter 4:9; 3 John 2-8; 1 Corinthians 6:12-20; and 1 Corinthians 10:23-11:1.  I suggest that you read the scriptures in your version of the Bible and then read the same scriptures in another version of the Bible.

The Journey of BELIEVE 9:  Stewardship

My Thoughts:

  • Everything we have belongs to God.  If we managed God's possessions we would take care of them very carefully.  But the things that we have bought we sometimes destroy them.
  • God has entrusted me to manage this Blog and also the second one I have started.  I need to work on them both to keep them up so that people who have subscribed to this blog can learn along with me to become like Jesus.
What are your thoughts?  I would love it if you would post your thoughts in the comments section.

Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father,  Please help me to put this week's idea into practice.  I try my best to be a good steward and know that everything we have belongs to you God.  \In Jesus name we pray.
Amen.
